If you have a Nintendo 3DS right now or plan to buy before 12 August, please take note that Nintendo is giving out 20 free games via the Nintendo eShop. The download starts 1st September but you must log into the US eShop before 12 August. Here’s a quick guide on how to do so.

New technology always comes at a price. So, if you were planning to take your brand new 3DS on a long haul plane ride, stick to the regular DS games to maximise your playtime.

It seems that the 3DS has gone back to square one once again considering that the DSi XL (a very popular console sales wise) has been able to squeeze out far more gameplay hours than any other concurrent DS despite it’s bigger screen.

Playing the old school DS games will set you back 5-8, somewhere over double the playtime.

The shocker is that to charge a 3DS from a fully drained state takes 3 hours! Who has that kind of time these days?!

Michael Jackson has a new video game and depending on which console you are playing on it the gameplay ranges from either Elite Beat Agents to something more physical like Just Dance.

But you are just one of the people who decided to ‘try before you buy’ like this dude. You’d be in for a humorous shock.

Vuvuzelas > Pirates!

If you were playing the DS version of Michael Jackson: The Experience, any audible music would be replaced with the blaring sounds of the vuvuzela and if you tried to pause the game, it’d just shut down. For extended demo users only.

I saw what you did there, Ubisoft!

Enough rambling about more and more Sony this and Sony that!

Let’s see how Nintendo plans to serve Sony’s own 3D tech without the need of glasses (big, expensive and usb charged lol)

Come June 19th, all DS consoles, including the newly released DSi XL will see a downward revision in prices in Japan.

This piece of news hits us as the video game industry braces itself for the upcoming E3 video game show this month where Nintendo is set to unveil their brand new handheld, a 3D version of the DS.

The last time Nintendo ventured into a 3D “portable” it was a Virtual Boy that only displayed 2 colors and gave users a headache after each session. I remember trying it out at the Singapore Discovery Centre back in the day.

With 3D the buzzword of the months past and to come, Nintendo’s effort to leap into new technology is actually something that they do not usually do, preferring to stick to the tried and tested modes of gaming.

My opinion is that if the 3D DS does not come with a toggle button, asprin makers will be rolling in the bucks as well.

It sure took its own sweet time to hit the store. But no better time than the present!

Unlike many other items of technology, the size of the DS grows with each reiteration instead of getting smaller.

Once upon a time, the DS was fat. Then it got smaller and slimmer. Next, it got longer. And now, IT IS SUPERSIZED. How big?

On with the show!

The first time I actually opened the box was to a very early bird customer who chanced upon our Twitter feed.

This time round, I’m going to take my time in unboxing the DSi XL.

The box could actually be more economical in size but I guess if it were sitting on the shelf, it has to make a bold statement.

Every DSi XL comes with preloaded software. Nothing super fancy, but it is a pretty nice bonus.

By the time you are reading this, the DSi XL would have already hit the stores in the U.S, so it would take a few more weeks (or even days!) before it hits Singapore.

The DSi XL is the biggest sized DS of the family, hence the XL tag. How big? Well, it is roughly the same size as a PSP. So it isn’t as XL as many would perceive it to be.

The DS has always been attractive considering its very very very affordable price tag: $169 as of this post. So, when the cheapest DSi going for $255 and the XL going for USD$189.99 before taxes, affordable becomes a thing of the past.

New technology is never cheap and a potentially hefty price tag would not go down well with Singaporeans (HAR SO EXPENSIVE?! GOT DISCOUNT NOT?).

Can’t win them all.

If you are more forward looking, the 3DS has already been slated for release next year and like its name the 3DS would feature 3D gaming. How would that really work out, I honestly have no idea but current 3D movies gives me a headache at the end of the show.

The larger portion of consumers aren’t really that into fancy smancy features. The Wii is testament to that fact. If the 3DS is able to allow players to play for long extended periods of time without giving them a splitting headache, it would be considered a win in my books.

Nintendo plans to roll out the 3DS with force feedback, an accelerometer and, of course, 3D. Watch out for it March 2011.

That being said, Batman Arkham Asylum: GOTY pulled off 3D gaming pretty well. Downside? 3D glasses does not go well with the short sighted.

In every MRT train carriage, there are no lesser than 5 iPhones. True story. Just look up from your DS/PSP from time to time and start counting.

The biggest loser of Apple’s charge would be, unfortunately, Sony. Sorry dude, looks like the PSP GO didn’t quite make the waves that Sony would have hoped for.

Apple laid the groundwork with iTunes first then uber cool hardware while Sony tries the reverse. FAIL.

Here’s a quick rundown on the numbers: Apple up 14%, Sony down 9%, Nintendo down 5%. That’s just the US.

Be afraid, be very very afraid.

Closed! Thanks for participating!

Taking that snapshot of the Eternal Diva movie poster in the MRT sure did wonders. It so happens that now I have 2 pairs of movie tickets and a handful of posters to giveaway as well!

Now here comes the hard part, how do I hand them out? I’d thought long and hard and decided that there would be 2 ways that you can land your hands on the loot!

In theme with Professor Layton, there always is a small puzzle or challenge before you can reach your goal, don’t worry it would be really really easy!

Ready? Read on!
