Based on our experience, most "fat" PS3 die after 2.5 to 3.5 years of usage. Here's some of the common problems.

Unable to read disc

The lens is probably faulty. Repair cost is either $100 or $110. If you purchased that PS3 from us, we offer a $30 discount. If in the very rare case the motherboard is faulty, we will not be able to repair the set and will return you at no charge.

Unable to power on with blinking light

The PS3 has overheated. It can be revived via reflow soldering, thorough cleaning and reapplication of thermal paste. This will revive the PS3 but the problem may occur again few months down the road, depending on whether the problem was originally caused by a real defect in the motherboard or just a need for maintenance. We won't be able to tell.

HDMI Port faulty

Again, this is a motherboard issue. As we can't find motherboard replacements, there is no solution right now.
